Bio

For William songwriting weaves together the many strands of his artistic interests and experiences – from the timeless melodies of Appalachian music, the intricate structure of classical music, and the spontaneity of jazz, to his deep engagement with literature.

His songs navigate the difficult gap between our hopes and disappointments with a vulnerability and resilience that is underscored by his warm baritone voice and the intimate acoustic arrangements of his trio (guitar, violin, upright bass).

William grew up in a musical household in Washington D.C., learning traditional folk music (fiddle, banjo, guitar) from his mother, alongside formal training in classical and jazz piano. His intellectual interests led him to study literature and philosophy in college. There, he began writing songs, bringing together his longstanding passions for composing instrumental music and writing poetry.

For him, writing a song is like trying to remember a dream: as the details slowly emerge, he is often surprised to find the song helping him face, inhabit, and express deeper, hidden feelings. Sharing that process with others through live performance is his greatest passion. He is currently recording his debut album “Visions of the Sun” which will be released in August 2026.

He also continues to explore traditional American fiddle styles and repertoire, as a member of the old-time string band “Big Cricket”, bluegrass band “Coastal Plain” and as a fiddle teacher.
